Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) on Tuesday celebrated its 29th foundation day. Established on May 6, 1996, it has emerged as one of India’s most trusted automotive brands. As HMIL enters the 30th year of its journey in India, it will continue its unwavering dedication to excellence, innovation and customer centricity, says a release.

Hyundai began its India journey with the setting up of a manufacturing facility in Sriperumbudur. Operations began in September 1998 with the commissioning of Hyundai’s first integrated car manufacturing plant outside Korea.

From SANTRO, to CRETA, to IONIQ 5, to IPO – Hyundai Motor India’s growth story is intertwined with that of the Indian automobile industry. HMIL aims to achieve cumulative annual production capacity of 1 million units by operationalising its Talegaon manufacturing facility, the release said.

It has exported over 3.7 million vehicles reinforcing the slogan of Make in India, Made for the World. It is the largest passenger car exporter since inception, with shipments to over 150 countries. the release said.

Unsoo Kim, Managing Director, HMIL, said, “Envisioning India at the heart of global manufacturing and commerce, Hyundai began its journey with the country 29 years ago with a vision of mutual progress.“

HMIL continues to stand among the top three global contributors to Hyundai Motor Company’s sales, accounting for 18.5 per cent of its global volumes in CY 2024, the release said.

As HMIL steps into its 30th year in India, the company remains future-focussed, delivering advanced mobility solutions and enriching customer experiences, driving collective progress for the nation and its people, the release said.
