As a housebound armchair traveller, I read all your travel pieces with pleasure. But the HTSI special was an extra pleasure, thank you.

However, I was disturbed by the tales of forests burning for so long in Chile, and concerns as to where the water is going to come from for that volume of Saudi tourists described by Ahmed Al Omran (HTSI, May 17).

A far cry from Sir John Glubb Pasha’s story of the old desert dweller who had to move camp if he could even see the light from another’s fire in the distance, because it made him feel crowded.
