Sarah Neville’s obituary (March 8) of James Harrison, the Australian railway worker whose blood donating was said to have saved the lives of more than 2mn babies, was truly inspirational.
His story and particularly his willingness to help others was humbling to read on a cold and bleak Saturday morning. As a child some 60-plus years ago, I can remember my late father being called in the middle of the night to perform blood analyses on newly-born babies at Parramatta Hospital. It’s also good to know you don’t have to be a loud, opinionated billionaire to merit an FT obituary.
