You report that President Donald Trump says he does not know if he needs to uphold the US constitution (Report, May 5). He should show more curiosity. If he doesn’t have time to read the presidential oath of office he should at least watch a video of one of his inaugurations.
The question is whether “preserve, protect and defend the constitution of the United States” means the same thing as “uphold”.
Perhaps uphold means to carry it at a reasonable level or avoid letting it touch the ground. I don’t know if the constitution is entitled to the same level of protection as the American flag.
