Regarding the fascinating, and depressing, report (May 5) pointing out the UK has built only 65 miles of motorway in the past 10 years, I wonder if this has been surpassed by the HS2 high-speed rail project, which must have completed a similar distance after several years of construction between London and Birmingham, completed several years late and with an estimated cost already over £100bn.
